Golden Boxing Promotions unveils inaugural fight card
Namibia's youngest professional boxing promoter, Tobias Naule, has unveiled the official fight card for the inaugural Golden Boxing Promotions tournament, with Swakopmund middleweight Martin Kambalili set to headline an eight-bout programme on 29 August at the YetuYama Centre in Katutura.
Speaking at the official launch yesterday, Naule said the event, held under the theme "Unity of Purpose", marks another important milestone for his newly established promotion, which aims to identify and develop boxing talent from across the country.
"As the youngest promoter in the country, I feel it is important that young people come up with initiatives. This is an opportunity for me to prove that young people are capable of creating opportunities and succeeding," Naule said.
He reiterated that Golden Boxing Promotions is not intended to compete with established promoters but to strengthen Namibian boxing by providing a platform for talented fighters from academies across the country.
"I am here to promote boxing, not to compete with anyone. I am here to identify talent, expose talent and help boxers reach the highest level. We are promoting fighters from different academies, not only from the Golden Boxing Academy," he said.
Eight professional bouts
Naule announced that the tournament will feature eight professional bouts, culminating in an eight-round middleweight main event between Martin Kambalili and Gabriel Shimweefeleni.
Introducing Kambalili as the headline fighter, Naule described the Swakopmund boxer as one of the athletes capable of reaching greater heights with the right support and guidance.
"It's fighters like Martin Kambalili that drew me to becoming a promoter. With the right guidance and grooming, they can most definitely reach the highest level in the sport," he said.
NAMCOL Enterprise Development Manager Phillip Kambonde welcomed the partnership, saying the YetuYama Centre was proud to host the inaugural event.
"We are pleased that NAMCOL has been chosen as the venue for this initiative because events such as this demonstrate the important role our institution can play in bringing communities together," Kambonde said.
The people's college
Describing NAMCOL as "the people's college", he said the institution's facilities are designed to serve not only students but also businesses, community organisations and sporting bodies by providing venues and services that support community development.
The inaugural event, which begins at 18:00, is fully sponsored by CastleBet, whose backing has enabled Golden Boxing Promotions to stage its first professional tournament.
With the fight card now confirmed, attention turns to 29 August when eight professional contests will showcase some of Namibia's emerging boxing talent, with Kambalili and Shimweefeleni set to headline the historic first event under the Golden Boxing Promotions banner.
