University of Namibia (Unam) Hard Hitters are targeting a home revival in the third round of the MTC Volleyball National League, which will be staged tomorrow and Sunday in Katima Mulilo.

The round will feature a packed 16-match programme across the men’s and women’s divisions, with Hard Hitters playing twice in the men’s section on their home court at the Unam Katima Mulilo Campus.

Hard Hitters are currently seventh in the standings, level with Calvary Eagles on three points, although Eagles sit sixth due to a superior set ratio of 0.60 to 0.46.

The two sides will meet tomorrow in the final men’s match of the day, with the winner standing a chance to move up the standings.

Hard Hitters picked up their first victory of the season in the second round last month against Afrocat C.

Home advantage

The side is hoping home advantage will favour them and put wind in their sails this weekend, especially as their other match is against an in-form Brutal Pact, who sit three places above them in fourth.

Hard Hitters captain Benitto Ndana said the team is highly motivated and has prepared well for the round in their backyard.

“Playing at home gives us extra confidence. [Our fans’] support will play a massive role, as it always uplifts the players and creates an exciting atmosphere,” he said.

Ndana said the crowd’s backing is what the team needs to fight for every point and push through difficult moments during matches.

Promise to make fans proud

He also extended gratitude to all their supporters who have stood with them since the start of the league.

“We encourage everyone to come out in numbers this weekend. Bring energy and support the team. We promise to give our all on the court and make the fans proud,” he assured.

Ndana said the round will also provide a crucial learning opportunity for up-and-coming players, while helping inspire growth, unity and improved sportsmanship in the Zambezi Region.

“Together, we can make this a memorable weekend for Unam Hard Hitters and Katima Mulilo,” he remarked.

Regarding preparations, Ndana said the players have put in the work in training to ensure strong performances.

“The camp has a positive energy, with everyone understanding the importance of this round,” he said.

Showing up at training is key

Ndana said the first two rounds gave them valuable lessons, which they have learned from as they seek an opportunity to reset and build momentum.

“A strong showing at home will boost our confidence, improve our standing and set the tone for the rest of the competition,” he noted.

Their training ahead of the round focused on improving defensive play, consistency and communication.

“We’ve also emphasised the importance of players showing up at training, as commitment and discipline are key to building a competitive team,” said Ndana.

He added that the team will be looking to execute in key moments after also spending time sharpening their attacking combinations.

Other men’s fixtures

Other men’s division matches will see undefeated league leaders Namibian Defence Force (NDF) Raptors face second-placed Namibian Correctional Service (NCS) and third-placed NamPol.

NamPol will also face NamPower on Saturday, after the opening match between Brutal Pact and Afrocat C.

NamPower will later take on Calvary Eagles, before NCS face Afrocat C in the final men’s fixture of the round.
