Inaugural Hydroweld soccer tournament a success

Playtime recently teamed up with Hydroweld to host an under-13 boys' soccer tournament in Walvis Bay.

More than 80 players from schools in the harbour town and the local Playtime team, competed for the Hydroweld Trophy, at the Atlantis Sports Club.

After an action-packed morning that saw nine-a-side teams competing for medals and trophies in highly competitive matches, !Narra Primary School eventually lifted the trophy in an under-13 boys' soccer tournament hosted by Hydroweld and Playtime.
The champions defeated Kuisebmond Primary School in a penalty shootout in the final match. Flamingo Primary School took the third spot.
“We are happy to have sponsored the inaugural Hydroweld under-13 boys’ tournament and to have partnered with Playtime Namibia. The tournament was well managed. The turnout was fantastic and we are delighted by the overwhelming success of this new sporting event on our local calendar," Hieko Steinmetz of Hydroweld said. "We are grateful for the opportunity to play a role in the continued development of youth soccer at the coast."
Gareth Amos, the communications manager for Playtime, thanked the company.
“Thank you for making this event possible. The kids spend a lot of time practicing and it is fantastic to see them reap the rewards of the hard work they have put in all year. We look forward seeing the Hydroweld under-13 boys’ soccer tournament becoming a permanent fixture so that the youngsters can progress through the age group every year.”

About Playtime
Playtime Namibia has been developing youth though sports in Walvis Bay since 2016. Currently, more than 1 200 children participate in various sporting activities, including soccer, cricket and athletics, at the harbour town. Playtime also provides physical training lessons for children in a number of Kuisebmond schools.
The organisation focuses on children from previously disadvantaged communities and, as such, conducts the majority of its programs at The Hub in Kuisebmond. This is a top-end modern facility with an artificial grass soccer pitch.
