Interhigh: Pro-Ed Wolves edge out WBPS Naartjies

In a thrilling display of athleticism and sportsmanship, Walvis Bay Private School (WBPS) and Pro-Ed Academy clashed in a multi-disciplinary Interschools competition that had spectators thoroughly entertained.
The event, hosted at the Naartjie Sports Field, showcased a diverse range of sports including rugby, hockey, netball and even less mainstream sports such as archery, providing a platform for promising athletes to exhibit their skills and determination.
The atmosphere was electric, as supporters from both schools poured into the stands, their cheers echoing across the field as the commencement of a day filled with intense sporting battles kicked off.
The day kicked off with each schools team showcasing their skill and commitment to their respective disciplines.
On the hockey astro, both WBPS and Pro-Ed Academy displayed exceptional stick skills and strategic ability, captivating the audience with their swift maneuvers and precise passes.
The U19 boys first team match concluded in a draw with three goals each for Pro-Ed and WBPS. However, Pro-Ed claimed a 3-1 victory in the U19 first team girls match.
Netball provided another fascinating spectacle, with players from both schools demonstrating impeccable teamwork and agility. The ball flew back and forth as each team competed for control, but in the end, it was WBPS who emerged triumphant in yet another fiercely contested match.
Archery added an element of precision and finesse to the proceedings, as competitors took aim with steady hands and unwavering focus. Spectators marveled at the skill and concentration exhibited by the archers, earning points for their respective teams.

RUGBY
The highlight of the day undoubtedly came with the much-anticipated rugby showdown between the first teams of Walvis Bay Private School and Pro-Ed Academy, who are both Standard Bank U19 Super League contestants.
From the first whistle, it was clear that both teams were determined to leave everything on the field. Bone-crunching tackles and lightning-fast runs kept spectators on the edge of their seats, as the lead changed hands multiple times.
The Naartjies started off strong and set the pace against their rivals, Pro-Ed Wolves. Surprisingly, Pro-Ed broke through WBPS strong defence with Maugan Jarman scoring the first try of the game. Pro-Ed secured four tries in this match, Maugan Jarman scoring two tries, followed by a try from JJ Fourie, AJ Wohler and Marc Holloway.
WBPS made a strong come back towards the end of the game in attempt to close the gap on the scoreboard. The Naartjies secured two tries, scored by Adriaan Boonzaaier and Tiaan van der Westhuizen.
In the end, it was Pro-Ed Academy who emerged victorious, their tenacity and skill shining through as they secured a hard-fought win over the host team, Walvis Bay Private School, with a final score of 27 - 19. Despite the disappointment of defeat, the players from Walvis Bay Private School showed admirable sportsmanship, congratulating their opponents on a well-deserved victory.
As the sun set on the Naartjie rugby field, both schools came together to celebrate the spirit of competition and camaraderie that had defined the day. The true winners were all those who had participated, showcasing the power of sport to unite and inspire.
