The Khomas Basketball Association (KBA) League has reached its playoff stage, which tips off today at the University of Namibia (Unam) Gym Hall with two premier league matchups.
Regular-season leaders Afro Stars will face Quality Basketball Club (QBC) at 19:00, before the Unam derby where Wolves clash with Rebels at 21:00.
Afro Stars had been on a strong run leading into the playoffs, but their five-game winning streak ended last weekend with a 75-61 loss to Unam Rebels.
Ironically, Rebels then slipped to a narrow 93-92 defeat against BAS Vikings, despite having beaten Stars.
Other closing fixtures to the regular season saw BAS Vikings beat QBC 104-96, before QBC bounced back with a decisive 87-60 victory over Unam Wolves.
Afro Stars topped the regular-season standings on 28 points, followed by Unam Wolves on 26, Unam Rebels on 25 and QBC on 23, with BAS Vikings rounding it out on 18.
The women’s premier league wrapped up in July, with Unam Phoenix dominating unbeaten on 24 points ahead of second-placed Ongos Shooting Stars on 22.
Last weekend’s play-ins saw Atlantic Storms beat BAS Falcons 62-43 in the play-in for third place.
In the other play-in tie, Unam Wildcats overcame Nust Dodgers 45-38. The results mean Storms secure third place for the playoffs and Dodgers settle in sixth.
Atlantic Storms’ third-place finish sets up a semifinal clash with Ongos Shooting Stars next week, renewing last season’s playoff rivalry that saw Storms emerge victorious.
The other semifinal place will be decided on Saturday at 14:00 at Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS), where Falcons and Wildcats clash for fourth place.
The winner will advance to face unbeaten regular-season leaders Unam Phoenix.
