Khomas crowned overall winners at 28th annual police sports championship

Khomas Region emerged as the overall champions of the 28th Annual Namibian Police Sports Championship, dominating in athletics, football, and volleyball across both male and female categories.The event, which commenced on Monday, 23 June 2025, brought together over 1,600 officers from all 14 regions in a week-long competition aimed at fostering unity, teamwork, and physical excellence within the Namibian Police Force.
Kunene Region clinched gold in the popular drill competition, with Hardap and Oshana placing second and third, respectively.
Inspector General of the Namibian Police Force, Lieutenant General Joseph Shimweelao Shikongo, praised the championship's success during his keynote address at the closing ceremony. He highlighted the role of sport in promoting resilience, teamwork, and discipline — values that are core to policing.
Commissioner Frednard Nangolo also commended the professionalism and sportsmanship displayed throughout the tournament.
Remarkably, the event concluded without any reported criminal incidents — a result Shikongo attributed to the strong collaboration and discipline within the force.
The championship also saw several officers being promoted. Inspector Kaarna Mutota and Inspector Andrew Kubas were appointed Station Commanders of Tsumkwe and Grootfontein, respectively. Decorated athlete Warrant Officer Caroline Nakathigo was promoted to Inspector, and her retirement was extended by a year in recognition of her outstanding service.
