Khomas League delivers thrills and forfeits
The Khomas Regional Netball League delivered a mixed bag of high-scoring masterclasses, dominant defensive displays and unexpected drama across all three divisions at the Israel Patrick Iyambo netball courts on Saturday.
In the premier Super 10 division, United suffered a brutal weekend across its squads. Golden Girls B set the tone early with a commanding 49-29 victory over United B.
Things went from bad to worse for United B later in the day, as Go Monate Fela (GMF) put on a shooting clinic, dismantling them in a 59-22 blowout.
Meanwhile, the powerhouse clash between Namibian Defence Force (NDF) Windhoek and United A saw the defence forces march to a hard-fought 52-41 win.
The biggest surprise of the day, however, came from the scheduled fixture between Namibian Correctional Service (NCS) and Wanderers, which saw an exceedingly rare double forfeit as both teams failed to take the court.
The second tier was heavily defined by default wins. City of Windhoek had a busy but bittersweet day, as they secured a solid 41-28 victory on the court against Zebra Force, but later fell victim to a clinical Afrocat Lions A side, losing 15-0.
Black Africa failed to field a team for their matchup, handing an effortless 15-0 walkover victory to the University of Namibia (Unam) Jaguars.
Third division double-header
The development division brought plenty of energy, led by a spectacular double-header performance from Young Generations.
The youth side proved to be in rampant form, first blowing past City of Windhoek 40-20, before returning to the court to comfortably dispatch United B 48-24.
City of Windhoek’s third-division side managed to bounce back from their loss to Young Generations by claiming a 15-0 forfeit win over the TC Gladiators.
Elsewhere, Afrocat Lions continued the club’s winning ways with a comfortable 35-13 triumph over Tura Magic, while Trustco United A picked up a 15-0 walkover point after Black Africa registered another default.
As the competition heats up, teams are already shifting their focus to the next challenge. Fixtures director Klaudia Mbeeli confirmed that the next league matches will be played this Friday.
