The Khomas Region reaffirmed its footballing strength by capturing both the boys’ and girls’ titles at the National Under-15 Schools Football Championship held in Windhoek last weekend. The two-day tournament, organised by the Namibia Football Association (NFA) in collaboration with the Namibia Schools Sports Union (NSSU), brought together boys’ and girls’ teams from all 14 regions.
The event – staged at the fields of NFA Technical Centre, Technical High School, and Delta Secondary School – formed part of the national phase of the CAF African Schools Football Championship.
Organisers aimed to identify the most promising young players who will represent Namibia at the COSAFA Qualifier in Johannesburg, South Africa, this December.
Khomas proved exceptional across both the male and female divisions.
In the girls’ final, they cruised past Hardap Region 3-0 with a combination of technical finesse and impressive teamwork.
The boys’ team mirrored that dominance with a composed 2-0 victory over Omaheke Region, sealing a remarkable double for the region.
According to NFA Education and TDS Officer Nicholas Jacobs, a total of 33 players from each gender will be provisionally selected from this tournament to form Namibia’s national Under-15 squads.
Jacobs described the event as a milestone for Namibian youth football, marking the first time all 14 regions competed in a national championship of this kind.
He expressed gratitude to the Namibian Government for providing transport to ensure full regional participation, as well as to the schools that accommodated visiting teams throughout the competition.
The CAF African Schools Football Championship, launched in 2022 with the support of the Motsepe Foundation, continues to strengthen grassroots football across Africa. It provides opportunities for young players to grow within a structured environment, ensuring that school-level football remains a key pathway for developing future stars.
With Khomas’s impressive double triumph, the region has once again set the standard in nurturing young footballers, a success that echoes CAF’s vision of building the future of African football from the classroom to the continental stage.
