Kleintjes, Ndoroma card 50 to book regional final
Reginald Kleintjes and Ndadhi Ndoroma carded 50 Better Ball Stableford points to win the fifth and final Windhoek qualifying round of the King Price Insurance Namibia International Pairs and secure their place in the Central Regional Final.
The pair topped an 84-player field at Windhoek Golf Club recently, finishing four points clear of Nelago Amutenya and Wisdom Moyo, who returned the next-best score of 46.
In the Better Ball Stableford format, both members of a pair play their own ball on each hole, with only the better points score between them counting towards the team’s total.
Unlike stroke play, where the lowest score wins, the pair accumulating the most Stableford points prevails.
Kleintjes and Ndoroma’s 50-point return therefore placed them at the top of the leaderboard and moved them into the next phase of the national qualifying pathway.
They are due to contest the Central Regional Final at Omeya Golf Club on 8 August, where the leading combinations will attempt to advance to the National Final at Omeya Golf Club and Windhoek Golf Club in September.
The eventual national champions will earn the right to represent Namibia at the International Pairs World Final in Tenerife, Spain, from 5 to 9 October.
The world showpiece will bring together amateur pairs from 27 countries at Golf del Sur and Amarilla Golf. It will be played over two 18-hole rounds in the Better Ball Stableford format following an official practice round.
Chasing pack
Amutenya and Moyo finished second in last weekend’s standings on 46 points, one ahead of Ester van Taak and Melt van Schoor, who occupied third place with 45.
Julian Stoffels and Vilho Ndaikile followed on 44 points, while Anton Fourie and Phillip Steenberg completed the leading five combinations with 43.
The results meant Kleintjes and Ndoroma established a five-point advantage over third place, with six points separating the winners from the fourth-placed combination and seven between them and Fourie and Steenberg.
Windhoek Golf Club reported that four combinations secured regional-final places from the round.
Other honours
Paul Grobler claimed the nearest-to-the-pin prize on the third hole, while Sesilia Nkoshi took the honour on the ninth.
Lazaris Nahole hit the closest qualifying tee shot on the 13th hole, with Garren Smith prevailing on the 17th.
Andre Visser, Claud Abrahams, Gustav Jung and Danie van Schoor each received biltong sponsored by The Corner Butcher through the competition’s lucky draw.
