Mbahu heads to Budapest for coaching course
The Namibian Basketball Federation (NBF) bid farewell to coach Johannes Shigwedha Mbahu in Windhoek on Thursday ahead of his participation in the International Coaching Course (ICC) in Budapest, Hungary.
The eight-week programme will be held at the Hungarian University of Sports Science (HUSS) from 7 October to 26 November.
Mbahu’s participation was arranged in cooperation with the Namibia National Olympic Committee (NNOC) and the International Olympic Committee (IOC), with support from Olympic Solidarity.
The NBF said the opportunity followed an extensive application process through the NNOC to secure support under the IOC’s Olympic Solidarity programme.
The global initiative provides financial and technical support aimed at strengthening coaching and sports development around the world.
At the send-off, NNOC chief executive officer Anri Parker highlighted the importance of the support provided through the programme.
She said continuous professional development and international cooperation remain important to advancing sports performance and institutional growth in Namibia.
Future of basketball
NBF secretary-general Titus Mwahafa described the support for Mbahu as an investment in the future of basketball in the country.
“The expertise and global perspective he brings back from HUSS will directly enhance our national coaching framework, elevate player development and inspire the next generation of athletes across our regional associations,” he said.
Mwahafa also urged Mbahu to represent Namibia with pride in Hungary, saying he carries the hopes, trust and pride of the local basketball community.
“We charge you today to uphold the Namibian flag high, wear our national colours with pride, and be a true ambassador of Namibian sportsmanship.”
The NBF also thanked Olympic Solidarity and the NNOC for their support throughout the scholarship application process and Mbahu’s send-off.
