Mighty Gunners conquer Okakarara
The weekend belonged to NDF-Mighty Gunners Volleyball Club (MGVC), who maintained their unbeaten record in the Central North Volleyball Association (CNVA) League.
MGVC sits comfortably at the top of the men's standings with 22 points after winning all eight of its matches. A series of convincing 3-0 and 3-1 victories has given the side a healthy advantage over its closest challengers.
However, Nampol Otjozondjupa Volleyball Club (NOVC) and Grootfontein Volleyball Club (GVC) remain locked in a tight battle for second place. Both teams have 19 points and identical 6-2 records, although NOVC holds a slight advantage on set ratio. Last weekend's results showed that neither side is prepared to give ground in the race for the title.
Further down the table, Air Masters (AM VC) and Okakarara VTC (OVTC VC) are level on eight points as they continue their search for consistency. B2Gold sits on three points, while Eleven Warriors Volleyball Club (EWVC), with two points, will be looking to bounce back after another difficult weekend.
Women's division
In the women's division, Nampol Otjozondjupa Volleyball Club (NOVC) continued its dominant run. The side tops the standings with a perfect 12 points after winning all four of its matches without dropping a single set, boasting an impressive 12-0 set record.
Eleven Warriors Volleyball Club (EWVC) occupies second place with nine points from five matches but will need to improve to keep pace with the leaders. Okakarara VTC Volleyball Club (OVTC VC) is third with three points, while Grootfontein Volleyball Club (GVC) is still searching for its first victory of the season after losing all three of its matches.
Looking ahead
CNVA chairperson Joseph Hamunyela said the league continues to show encouraging progress, with the standard of competition improving significantly compared to previous seasons.
"The league has been progressing very well, with significant improvement compared to previous years and a noticeable rise in the standard of play. Teams are becoming more competitive, and the quality of volleyball continues to improve, which is encouraging for the development of the sport in the Central North region," he said.
The next round of CNVA League matches will be played on 25 July at Omulunga Stadium in Grootfontein, where all registered teams are expected to compete in another exciting weekend of volleyball.
