Mighty Gunners crowned CNVA champions
Mighty Gunners Volleyball Club from Otjiwarongo claimed the Central North Volleyball Association (CNVA) League title after defeating rivals Nampol Otjozondjupa 3-1 in a thrilling final match in Grootfontein.
Men's division
The decisive victory capped off an undefeated campaign for Mighty Gunners in the men's division, where they accumulated 34 points.
The Nampol team secured second place on 28 points, edging out Grootfontein Volleyball Club on set ratio after both finished tied on points.
Both Mighty Gunners and Nampol earned qualification to represent the CNVA at the upcoming MTC Volleyball National League (VNL) playoffs, scheduled for 12–13 September 2026 in Otjiwarongo, as well as the Bank Windhoek NVF Cup.
Women's division
Nampol Otjozondjupa dominated with a perfect record to take the top spot with 18 points, while Eleven Warriors finished as runners-up on 12 points.
Nampol and Eleven Warriors qualified as the top two regional representatives in the women's category for the national post-season competition.
The achievements mark an important turnaround for the Otjozondjupa Region following a challenging year without representation in the national league due to previous relegations.
CNVA chairperson Joseph Hamunyela praised the elevated level of competition achieved despite logistical obstacles.
“This year's league was very competitive, and the standard of play has improved drastically despite the financial constraints and long distances between our towns. Overall, the league was successful,” Hamunyela stated.
Hamunyela appealed to companies, institutions and individuals to support the development of volleyball in the region by coming on board as sponsors and by encouraging their teams to participate in the CNVA League next season.
“CNVA currently relies solely on club registration fees and player registration fees to finance its administration and league activities. We therefore call on companies, institutions and individuals to partner with us, either through sponsorship or by registering teams, so that together we can continue developing and growing volleyball in the Otjozondjupa Region,” he said.
