Momentum renews commitment to junior golf as 2026 Kids Golf Series tees off
Momentum Namibia has reaffirmed its commitment to youth development and grassroots sport with the renewal of its sponsorship of the Momentum Kids Golf Series, ushering in another promising chapter for junior golf in the country.
The 2026 series officially teed off on 27 April at the Windhoek Golf Club, attracting an impressive field of 51 young golfers competing across age groups from Under-7 to Under-19. The strong turnout reflects the steady rise in junior participation and the continued success of the partnership between Momentum Namibia and Damian’s Sports Academy (DSA).
The nationally aligned series comprises eight tournaments scheduled between March and October 2026. Played in a structured nine-hole format, it accommodates both handicap and non-handicap players, creating an inclusive and accessible pathway for young golfers at varying stages of development.
Speaking on the renewed sponsorship, Momentum Marketing Specialist Charnel-Ann Heyn said the initiative extends beyond the sport itself.
“Our continued investment in the Momentum Kids Golf Series reflects our commitment to developing Namibia’s future talent, both on and off the course. This partnership goes beyond sport — it’s about building confidence, discipline and creating opportunities for young golfers to thrive in a game they are passionate about,” she said.
The opening event was contested in a medal format using a double par scoring system, striking a balance between competitiveness and accessibility. One of the standout features of the tournament was the noticeable increase in participation by young girls across several age groups, signalling encouraging progress in the development of women’s golf in Namibia.
Damian da Silva, head coach and founder of Damian’s Sports Academy, welcomed the continued backing.
“The Momentum Kids Golf Series has become a cornerstone of junior golf development in Namibia. With Momentum’s ongoing support, we are able to provide consistent, high-quality competitive opportunities that nurture talent and grow the game nationally,” he said.
The series also contributes to the NAMKIDS National Order of Merit, giving young players a platform to earn rankings and advance within the national development system.
As the 2026 season unfolds, the Momentum Kids Golf Series is expected to once again play a significant role in strengthening participation, fostering emerging talent and reinforcing Momentum’s footprint in youth and sporting development across Namibia.
The next tournament is scheduled for May as the series continues to build momentum throughout the year.
