Moses hints at another boxing tournament
AC Boxing Promotions founder and promoter Imms Moses has hinted at plans to stage another boxing tournament before the end of the year.
Moses, however, is keeping the cards close to his chest regarding the date, but remains confident that his promotion can host at least one more fight night this year.
“I can confirm that we still have plans to stage another fight.
“It is always important to give boxers an opportunity to fight and improve their rankings. That is why we will surely have to give these guys an opportunity,” Moses said.
The last major tournament staged by Moses ended in disappointment for his academy when boxer Flame Nangolo lost his African title to fellow Namibian Martin Mukungu.
The defeat was a major setback for the academy, given the expectations surrounding Nangolo and his title reign. Moses, however, remains optimistic that the boxer can bounce back.
He also stressed that AC Boxing Academy is not built around one boxer, but rather a collective group of talented fighters.
“We have many guys with top potential and we want them all to succeed. I always say that setbacks build the strongest warriors, and we are on a path to create top boxers as always,” Moses said.
Funding remains a challenge
While Moses is keen to stage more boxing events, he says a lack of sponsorship continues to make it difficult to host regular tournaments.
He said staging major boxing events requires significant financial backing, with sponsors playing a crucial role in making the events possible.
“Staging big fights costs money and that is why it is important to have sponsorship.
“We are, however, always struggling to secure big sponsors, and that is why it takes longer to hold fights here compared to other countries where they have big fight cards almost every weekend.
“We do try with the limited resources we have, but it could have been even better had there been big sponsors on the card,” Moses told Sport Wrap.
The AC Boxing Academy, originally known as the AC Boxing and Fitness Gym, started its journey in 2016 as a boxing academy and gym operating under AC Sports.
It was founded as a community-focused initiative aimed at scouting, developing and grooming grassroots Namibian boxing talent.
