MUN launches national games
The Mineworkers Union of Namibia (MUN) has launched its first-ever National MUN Games as part of its 40th Anniversary celebrations.
Held under the theme “Building Unity Through Sport, Wellness and Worker Solidarity,” the Games are expected to bring together approximately 500 participants from across the country during the Union's anniversary celebrations in November 2026.
The two-day event will feature football and netball tournaments, a 5km fun walk, a 10km fun run and a tug-of-war challenge.
MUN says the Games are aimed at promoting teamwork, healthy lifestyles, unity and stronger relationships among members from different regions and workplaces.
Celebration of unity and solidarity
MUN President Poco-Key Mberiuana said the Games are more than just a sporting competition, describing them as a celebration of worker unity and solidarity.
“As we celebrate 40 years of the Mineworkers Union of Namibia, these Games provide an opportunity for members from across the country to come together, strengthen bonds of solidarity, and celebrate the values that have sustained our Union for four decades,” he said.
MUN General Secretary George Ampweya said the Union is looking forward to welcoming members from all regions.
“The Games will not only showcase talent and teamwork but will also provide a platform for members to interact, build lasting connections and reflect on the journey that has brought MUN to this important milestone,” he said.
The Games form part of a broader 40th Anniversary campaign aimed at celebrating MUN's history while strengthening member engagement, health and wellness, and regional cohesion.
