Namibia Sports Commission chief administrator Freddy Mwiya has urged national federations to be compliant during the year 2026.

Mwiya, who has been already attending several stake holders meetings, is positive about the prospects for Namibian sports this year.

He however reminded the federations affiliated to the NSC to take compliance seriously.

“As an organisation we remain committed towards the development of sports for the year 2026.

“I have been talking much on compliance for the past few years and I will once again urge the federations to remain compliant.

“It is important that all things are in order for the day-to-day operations of the federations,” Mwiya said.

Mwiya added that the Commission will continue leading by the book in order to maintain order in the governance and administration of Namibian sports.

The NSC, which is tasked to coordinate all sport activities in the country, remains committed to its mandate.

“We also know that the ministry has to provide a conducive environment for us to operate in and that’s why we have been constantly engaging them.

“The NSC has a workshop with all federations this coming weekend in order to update them on the way forward,” Mwiya said.

The chief administrator spoke on the importance of having Namibia perform well at international events.

He told Sport Wrap TV that they expect podium finishes from various international games Namibia will compete in this year.

“We have the Commonwealth Games coming up (hosted from July 23 to August 2 in Glasgow, Scotland) and many other international events.

“This is why we want the country to do well in this events, with better preparations of course.

“I also know that we need facilities in order to achieve that and that is why we will meet the board of directors to discuss and advise on this matter.”

Improved staff

The Namibia Sports Commission revealed that they have plans on adding more personnel to their team this year.

Mwiya said it was important to recruit more people in the commission.
