Nangolo Set for title defence against Bagwasi
Boxing
Namibia’s WBO Africa Super Featherweight Champion, Flame “The Special One” Nangolo, will defend his title against Botswana’s Steven Bagwasi on 13 September at the Roman Catholic Hall in Windhoek. The fight was originally scheduled against Nigeria’s Rowan Lawal on 16 August but was postponed to ensure both this bout and Fillipus “Energy” Nghitumbwa’s WBO Global title challenge on 9 August receive proper attention and promotion.
“We’re a close-knit boxing community. Energy’s fight deserves our full focus, and so does Flame’s title shot,” organisers said. “Spacing them out gives both events the energy and spotlight they deserve.”
Promoter Imms Moses of AC Boxing Promotions described Bagwasi as a tough opponent who will bring out the best in Nangolo. “He has been in Namibia twice before, defeating Sakaria Sheehama in December 2019 and Sebastianus Natanael in December 2021. He’s also an Olympian who represented Botswana at the highest amateur level. Botswana boxers always come to fight,” Moses said.
Nangolo has spent the past three months preparing, including a two-month training camp in Las Vegas. “Special One is in great shape and ready to defend his title,” Moses added.
The fight card will also feature Namibian talents including Charles Shinima, Hafeni Nghesheya and Ruan Rispel. Tickets are N$300 per person, with VIP tables at N$20,000. Moses stressed the importance of corporate support to fund the event.
Moses emphasised the importance of corporate support to ensure the event’s success. “The funds from table sales will directly cover event costs. AC Boxing does not have a main sponsor, so we are relying on the support of corporates and fans to make this night possible.”
All tickets purchased for the original 16 August date remain valid. Further venue and fight card details will be announced soon.
The September clash promises to be another highlight for Namibian boxing as Nangolo looks to cement his status as one of Africa’s brightest young champions.
