Navachab stay top with three straight-set wins
Navachab QKR Warriors strengthened their position at the top of the Erongo Volleyball Association (EVA) men’s standings after recording three straight-set victories at Klippenberg Country Estate in Karibib on Saturday.
The log leaders beat Seaside 3-0 before recording the same scoreline against Blue Waters and Coastal Warriors to complete an unbeaten round without dropping a set.
The round was staged outside the association’s usual venues in Swakopmund and Walvis Bay as part of efforts to grow volleyball across the Erongo Region.
EVA marketing director Albertina Dillu said taking the league to Karibib proved successful and received support from the local community.
“The initiative to stage league matches outside our usual venues proved to be a success,” she said.
Navachab Gold Mine support
Dillu also thanked Navachab Gold Mine for supporting the round.
“We extend our sincere appreciation to the leadership of Navachab Gold Mine for their support and presence. Their attendance at our matches underscored the strong partnership between sport and the local community,” she said.
“[This includes] managing director George Botshiwe, chief operating officer Theophelus Kagogo and senior public relations and communications officer McLyn Kasale.”
Navachab Warriors’ chairperson Kostantinus Shuukwanyama said the association had previously struggled to secure venues for its league matches in Swakopmund and Walvis Bay.
He said an agreement was eventually reached with the association and participating clubs to use the Karibib venue where Navachab regularly train.
“I think it was a matter of fearing the unknown and being reluctant to test something new, but this has now allowed us to plan better for next year. We can now include Karibib in our resource planning as far as league venues are concerned,” he said.
He added that the club would explore securing additional venues in the town.
In the other matches, Namibia Navy beat Seaside and Rössing 3-0, before falling 3-1 to Blue Waters.
Rössing recovered to defeat Coastal Warriors 3-1, while Sharks recorded a 3-0 victory over Erongo NamPol.
The next round of matches will be held at the SFC Sports Club in Swakopmund this Saturday.
