The Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) has entered a bold new chapter with the official announcement of its partnership with Novel Motor Company, which has come on board as the union’s official vehicle sponsor.
The collaboration, announced at a ceremony attended by media, partners and distinguished guests, represents a significant step forward for Namibian rugby – not just in terms of mobility, but in pursuit of its broader developmental ambitions.
Chief executive officer of the NRU, John Heynes, emphasised the importance of the agreement. “Today marks a significant milestone in the journey of Namibian rugby. It is with great pride and excitement that we announce our new partnership with Novel Motor Company as the official vehicle sponsor of the Namibia Rugby Union.
“This partnership is not merely about vehicles – it is about mobility, progress and the shared ambition of reaching new heights.”
The partnership includes the dynamic automotive brands Jaecoo and Jetour, as well as the robust Ford Wildtrack X, whose increasing prominence in Namibia reflects a shared commitment to excellence and innovation.
The sponsorship is set to empower the NRU to expand its reach and elevate its programmes across all regions of the country.
The NRU's director of rugby, Jacques Burger, welcomed the support, highlighting its immediate impact on development and high-performance structures.
“With the backing of Novel Motor Company, key grassroots initiatives such as Rugby Rising Play and EmpowerHer will benefit from increased logistical support, enabling greater reach and impact. These programmes aim to build a lasting legacy for rugby among boys and girls throughout Namibia.
“The collaboration also bolsters our high-performance programme ahead of the 2027 Rugby World Cup qualifier scheduled for July 2025 in Uganda. With the new Ford Wildtrack X, I’ll be able to travel across the country – from the southernmost regions to the north – ensuring elite structures and training remain accessible to all players.”
Under the banners of Jaecoo, Jetour and Wildtrack X, Namibia will host three major international fixtures in June 2025:
• Welwitschias vs Uganda on 14 June at the coast,
• Welwitschias vs The Pumas (South Africa) on 21 June at the Hage Geingob Stadium
• Namibia vs Italy on 27 June at the Hage Geingob Stadium.
These key matches form part of Namibia’s Rugby World Cup qualifying preparations, and with Novel Motor Company’s support, the Union is confident in its readiness both logistically and operationally.
In conclusion, the NRU extended heartfelt appreciation to Novel Motor Company and its affiliated brands. “Your belief in Namibian rugby is a catalyst for growth,” the Union said. “Together, we will drive the game forward – with passion, professionalism and pride, to every corner of our beautiful country.”
