NTTA concludes final preps for Region 5 Youth Games

Namibia’s recent table tennis Open Championship served as the final preparation for the junior and senior teams competing at the Region 5 Youth Games and the Senior Regional Championships, which the country will host next month.
The Namibia Table Tennis Association’s (NTTA) event, sponsored by Phoenix Namibia Assurance Company, was held at Wanderers Sports Hall.
In the men’s singles, South Africa’s Theo Cogill and Jodie Galant claimed first and second place, respectively. Namibian players Kamrouz Ghayouri and Delton Dreyer had to settle for third place.
The women’s singles saw Namibia’s Reese Saunderson lead the charge, followed by Michelle de Koker in second place, with Cadence Farmer and Lian Gebauer sharing third place.
The tournament also saw an outstanding showing in the doubles section.
Men’s doubles: 1 Keene Joste and Jodie Galant (South Africa), 2 Theo Cogill (SA) and Rudi Saunderson, 3 Kamrouz Ghayouri and Caden Bosman, 3 Agape Chicalu and Kevin Zhang.
Women’s doubles: 1 Lian Gebauer and Cadence Farmer, 2 Netanya Beukes and Michelle de Koker, 3 Faith Iyambo and Carolina Shigwedha. There were no contenders for the second bronze medal position.
Mixed doubles: 1 Theo Cogil (SA) and Suverasaneje Ikorua, 2 Kamrouz Ghayouri and Lian Gebauer, 3 Caden Bosman and Carolina Shigwedha, 3 Ewan Orlam and Michelle de Koker.
Speaking to this publication, NTTA president Rudi Saunderson said the Senior Regional Championships will serve as qualifiers for the African Championships.
