Celonika Robinson and Johan Lewis emerged victorious in the second leg of the 2024 Nedbank for Good Series, which was held at the Gobabis Golf Club last Saturday.
Lewis scored 39 points ahead of Burger Bergh in second (34 points) and Willem Wermann (32, third) and Bertus Opperman (32, fourth on count-out).
In the women’s competition, Robinson won the event on count-out after scoring 33 points, ahead of second-placed Anta Derks (33). Third place was occupied by Martie Opperman, who scored 28 points.
Speaking after her victory, Robinson said she had enjoyed playing in Gobabis as the tournament was well organised.
“I played on a very low handicap and aimed to get at least 30 points. The course was very difficult, but I avoided getting a blackout. I am happy with my performance, and I am looking forward to playing my next tournament in the series,” she said.
Robinson says she intends to play in six tournaments this year’s series, especially the Oranjemund course which she has never played on before.
She called on more women to partake in golf, saying the sport is relaxing and gives opportunities for ladies to develop new friendships, learn and exercise.
She paid tribute to the organisers, saying they are doing a fantastic job of giving back to the community.
The next event in the Nedbank for Good Series, will take place in Tsumeb on 8 June, before moving to Oshakati (22 June), Mariental (13 July), Oranjemund (3 August), Henties Bay (17 August), Rössmund (24 August), Walvis Bay (31 August) and Windhoek Golf Club (14 September). The series final is scheduled for 4 October at Omeya.
