Namibia’s boxing sensation Flame “Specialone” Nangolo successfully defended his WBO Africa Super Featherweight Championship on Saturday night at the Roman Catholic Hall in Windhoek, extending his undefeated record to 14 wins from 14 fights. In a thrilling contest that went the full ten rounds, Nangolo overcame Botswana’s Steven Bagwasi by unanimous decision. The loss marks Bagwasi’s second career defeat, leaving the Olympian with a professional record of 11 fights, nine wins and two losses.
“It feels super proud,” Nangolo said after the bout. “I would like to thank my team – it was tough, they pushed me to the limit, and my sparring partners helped me prepare. He came prepared; he was a hell of a fighter. But I had the better game plan. He’s dangerous, so I had to stick to the plan. I’m already in the top eight of the WBO rankings, so I have to stay active, solid, focused and disciplined.”
The win cements Nangolo’s status as one of Namibia’s fastest-rising stars. Already inside the WBO’s top 15 global rankings, the 25-year-old edges closer to a potential world title shot.
Promoter Praises Fans and Sponsors
AC Boxing Promotions founder Immanuel “AC” Moses expressed his gratitude to everyone who supported the event.
“First of all, I want to thank everybody for coming – the fans, the companies that bought tables,” Moses said. “AC Promotion is being run with no budget; we don’t have a sponsor, but we’ve got the talent and the knowledge to pull it off. We keep pushing these youngsters one step at a time.
“You could see Special One kept learning every round. I kept telling him to stay focused because his opponent was still dangerous. We sent him to Las Vegas for that training camp because in boxing you never stop learning.
“We’re looking forward to making sure he becomes a world champion. As we speak he’s now already in the top 15, and after this win he’s moving closer to the top 10. That’s every fighter’s dream – but you have to follow the structure. It’s costly: sanction fees, flying officials here – this fight alone cost almost N$380,000 without a sponsor.
“I also want to challenge our government officials and corporates: you can see the talent, you can see what we are doing. This is classic boxing and it deserves financial backing. Let’s grow with these youngsters and keep them out of the streets.”
