Sports Expo to focus on high performance
The seventh edition of the Namibia Sports Expo, launched by the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC) in Windhoek yesterday, will focus on high-performance sport when it takes place from 1 to 4 October at The Dome in Swakopmund.
NSC spokesperson Givean Samulandela said this year’s focus is linked to the Association of Sports Performance Centres (ASPC) African Continental Forum, which will form part of the programme.
“We had topics at the Creative Sport Tourism Expo. Now it’s time to elevate,” Samulandela said, adding that the two events would build on each other.
Exhibitions
The conference will run from 1 to 3 October, while the main Expo activities will take place on 4 October. Sport federations will showcase their codes through exhibitions held alongside the conference.
Samulandela encouraged federations to move beyond traditional pamphlets and flyers by making their exhibitions more interactive.
The Expo will also feature high jump and volleyball competitions to expose the public to different sporting codes and help identify potential talent.
He highlighted last year’s cricket exhibition, which included a virtual reality experience, as an example of how technology can help people experience sport.
The conference registration fee is N$1 500, with stakeholders encouraged to register ahead of the event.
