Mighty Gunners FC and Unam FC entered the tournament as underdogs, and few would have predicted that they would battle it out in the final.

The two teams, however, exceeded expectations and proved why they deserve to be among the Namibia Premier League’s top eight sides.

They reigned supreme in a competition that also featured league champions African Stars and runners-up Eeshoke Chula Chula FC.

Both teams are oozing with confidence ahead of their showdown at the Independence Stadium on Saturday.

Unam FC defeated Ongos FC 1-0 to reach the final.

Coach Robert Nauseb expects a tough encounter but says his players will give their all on the pitch.

“This is an important match for us and the final game of a long season.

“It is a huge opportunity for us to walk away with a piece of silverware this season.

“We have prepared well and can only look forward to giving our best in the final,” Nauseb said.

The former Brave Warriors and Kaizer Chiefs player has vowed not to take the army side lightly.

He acknowledged that their opponents possess quality, which should make for an exciting final.

“Playing against a team like Gunners will not be a walk in the park, and our players will therefore have to maintain their fitness levels.

“As a team, we are motivated by the fact that we came through tough matches to get here,” Nauseb told Sport Wrap.

Mighty Gunners, on the other hand, are relishing the challenge of playing in the final.

The men in uniform secured their place in the final after edging Eleven Arrows by a solitary goal in the semi-finals.

Coach Leona Kati expressed excitement ahead of the final match.

“I can say that the players are ready and have worked hard throughout the year.

“We do not underestimate Unam FC because we know they are a ball-playing team and can be dangerous in attack.

“We are, however, ready to try and neutralise them and take the cup to Otjiwarongo,” Kati said.

Standard Bank Namibia has confirmed sponsorship of N$2.5 million, underlining its commitment to football development in the country.

The tournament winners will receive N$600,000, while the runners-up will take home N$300,000. Losing semi-finalists will each earn N$100,000, and all participating teams received a N$50,000 preparation grant.

Individual awards have also been presented throughout the tournament, including Player of the Match awards for each game, as well as accolades for Player of the Tournament, Top Goalscorer and Best Goalkeeper.
