Stars refuses to be inferior
African Stars Football Club chairman says the team has no reason to feel or be inferior to teams competing on the continental stage.
The team is set to compete in the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Champions League preliminary round next week.
Stars are yet to advance to the group stages of the competition, and their chairman will be hoping that they can do that this time around.
Their first assignment is against Gabonese Football Club Mangasport on 5 September away from home.
“I do not think that as a football club, we must allow ourselves to feel inferior to others competing on the African continent.
“It is the first time we are playing against an opponent from Gabon, and this will be two important matches.
“It is no secret that in order to qualify for the group stages of the competition, one needs to win their matches,” Hei said.
The second leg of their match will be played on 12 September, with the team victorious over the two legs qualifying for the next qualifying round.
“The CAF Champions League qualification is not an easy ride, but the team has the potential to perform well.
“There is always a chance for a team in that competition, and that is why we will not rule out our chances.”
African Stars qualified for the competition’s preliminary rounds after winning the Premier League last season.
The football club managed to get 58 points in a season, while Chula Chula finished with just one point behind them.
Stars have competed in the Champions League preliminaries for the past three seasons and are eager and hoping to qualify for the group stages this time around.
The club recently appointed their former coach Ronnie Kanalelo after parting ways with coach Agnus Elemu.
The former Brave Warriors goalkeeper previously guided African Stars to the 2023/24 Namibia Premiership title and the PstBet Namibia Football Association (NFA) Cup before leaving the club.
He later coached Bucks Buccaneers and most recently spent last season in charge of Ongos FC.
