Team Namibia named for African esports qualifiers
The Namibian Electronic Sports Association (NESA) has officially named Team Namibia for the African Regional Qualifiers following the conclusion of the 2026 National Esports Qualifiers.
The qualifiers, which ran from June to July, featured four gaming titles and combined online competition with offline events in Windhoek before culminating in the Grand Finals on 25 July.
The selected athletes will represent Namibia when the African Regional Qualifiers get underway on Saturday.
In the Counter-Strike 2 qualifiers, tokolosie claimed first place ahead of Gate Keepers and Zone Aces after a round-robin competition involving three teams. Oryx Surge emerged victorious in the Mobile Legends: Bang Bang (MLBB) qualifiers, finishing ahead of Anteiku and Zone Synapse.
eFootball champions
The eFootball competition was held over two qualifying rounds. Divaldo "Nrg Mirries" Tavares won the opening round in Klein Windhoek, while Tommy "King_Ikela" Ikela topped the second round at Wanderers. Princess "Nellitha" Rooi qualified directly in the women's category, while Eddie "SIREDDIE" Handjaba secured the Clash Royale title after finishing ahead of Godwin "GoldenDeath" Naweb and Edan "Fluffy" Farmer.
According to NESA, the Grand Finals served as the final national selection event, with players assessed on individual performances rather than club results to determine the country's strongest representatives.
Team Namibia's Counter-Strike 2 squad comprises Alanray "zef" Miller, Joshua "turah" van Turah, Talon "Shackles" Izaks, Ilario "NoWher3" Izaks, Hermann "Kazzii" Koch and Ezeé "TheEzZ" Viljoen.
The Mobile Legends team includes Nico "S0ZN0TS0Z" Stoffberg, Viery "HitmanFN" Haufiku, Christim "The Black Death" Roman, Casey "Peacegraal" van Rooi, Tamarha "SpitFire" van Breda and Jeandre "Deatheater22" Klazen.
Tavares will compete in the eFootball Open division, while Rooi will represent Namibia in the women's event.
Handjaba completes the national team as Namibia's Clash Royale representative.
Placed in Sub-Saharan pool
Namibia has been placed in the Sub-Saharan pool of the African Regional Qualifiers, where teams will compete in a single-elimination format. The successful nations will qualify for the Global Esports Games, scheduled for Los Angeles in December.
Namibia's campaign begins on Saturday with the MLBB quarter-finals at 15:00, followed by the opening rounds of Counter-Strike 2 and Clash Royale at 17:00.
On Sunday, Tavares and Rooi will begin their respective eFootball campaigns at 15:00, while the MLBB semi-finals, Counter-Strike 2 quarter-finals and Clash Royale qualification rounds are scheduled for later in the day.
NESA president Flip de Bruyn congratulated all competitors who took part in the national qualifiers.
"The standard was excellent, and these athletes have earned the right to carry Team Namibia into the African Regional Qualifiers," he said.
