Tobias' stable set to entertain the coast
The MTC Nestor Sunshine Tobias Boxing and Fitness Academy, with PstBet as its core sponsor, has announced the "Local is Lekker" Boxing Bonanza, set to take place on 24 July at the Multipurpose Centre in Swakopmund.
The event aims to celebrate local boxing talent while providing a platform for emerging fighters to advance their careers.
The Erongo Region has long been regarded as one of Namibia's strongest boxing hubs, producing champions such as Harry Simon, Immanuel 'Prince' Naindjala and Abraham Ndaendapo, while also nurturing current stars including Mateus Haita, Harry Simon Jr, Fillemon Ngutunanye and Timoteus Shuulula.
The evening's headline attraction will see the academy's rising prospect Joy Nangolo take on experienced campaigner Gabriel Zamba for the Bantamweight National Title over 10 rounds in what promises to be a thrilling contest.
The undercard will also feature Lineekela Nghifindaka against David Shinuna in a six-round bout, while Fredrick Ngutunanye will face Paulus Shonena for a national title over 10 rounds.
Academy founder and promoter Nestor Sunshine Tobias said he has assembled a strong fight card featuring some of the country's top local talent.
"Local is always lekker and I can assure you there will be fireworks at the coast.
"We aim to bring quality entertainment to a town that has always supported us well.
"This is going to be a massive night of boxing and you simply cannot afford to miss it.
"The boxers are ready and have been preparing well for the big night," Tobias said.
Nestor Thomas is also scheduled to compete, with several additional bouts expected to complete an action-packed programme.
Tobias said local matchups always generate excitement because they showcase Namibia's best fighters competing against one another while helping determine the leading boxer in each division.
He added that the academy remains committed to developing, nurturing and grooming young fighters so they can climb the ranks and eventually achieve every boxer's dream of fighting for a world title.
The organisers have appealed to the business community in Swakopmund and the wider Erongo Region to support the event through sponsorships and partnerships, noting that staging a boxing event of this magnitude requires significant resources.
They believe that by supporting the initiative, local businesses can play a direct role in developing Namibia's future champions while contributing to the growth of the coastal economy.
Tickets for the event cost N$100 for general admission, while VIP tables seating 10 people are available for N$15 000.
The academy also expressed its gratitude to its long-term partners, particularly MTC and core sponsor PstBet, for their continued commitment to creating opportunities for the development of boxing across Namibia.
"I am also inviting boxing fans and corporate stakeholders to attend what is expected to be an unforgettable night of sporting excellence in Swakopmund," Tobias said.
The academy has produced several world champions over the years and remains one of Namibia's most successful boxing stables.
Tobias said taking boxing events to different parts of the country forms an important part of the academy's vision to bring the sport closer to its supporters.
"It is important that we do not host events of this magnitude only in the capital.
"We have continuously travelled to different parts of the country to ensure that all our fans have the opportunity to watch boxing.
"It is a privilege for us as a stable and for our sponsors to make this possible," he said.
