Unam and Mighty Gunners win NFA Cup
Unam FC were crowned 2026 NFA Cup champions after beating KK Palace 2-1 in an entertaining final at the Independence Stadium on Saturday, earning the winners' prize of N$400 000.
The university side capped an impressive cup campaign with a hard-fought victory over a resilient KK Palace team, who received N$150,000 as runners-up.
Unam head coach Robert Nauseb praised his players for their determination throughout the competition. "This has been a great tournament for us, and I am proud of what the players have overcome. We also have to give KK Palace credit for putting up a strong fight.
"It has been two finals in a few weeks, and the players really delivered today," Nauseb said.
Despite the defeat, KK Palace coach Sakaria Kambonde said he was proud of his team's performances throughout the tournament and the season. "We are disappointed not to be taking the cup home to the north, but I am proud of how far this team has come. Our performances in both the cup and the league have shown that we are a team with a bright future.
"I also want to thank our fans for the support they gave us throughout the competition," Kambonde said.
In the women's final, NDF Mighty Gunners Ladies were crowned champions after a commanding 4-0 victory over Khomas Nampol Ladies. The winners celebrated a successful season, while Khomas Nampol Ladies received N$70 000 as runners-up.
Mighty Gunners Ladies coach Salome Iyambo credited the victory to the collective effort of her players and technical staff. "This has been a collective effort by the players and technical staff. I am pleased with the way the girls performed today and proved themselves to be the best in the country.
"We will build on this success and aim to win more trophies," Iyambo said.
The men's third-place play-off produced plenty of drama as Okahandja United edged Mighty Gunners 10-9 in a penalty shoot-out to claim N$100 000.
Julinho Athletics Ladies secured third place in the women's competition with a 4-3 victory over Windhoek City, taking home N$40 000.
The champions also dominated the individual awards. Leena Alweendo of NDF Mighty Gunners Ladies was named Women's Player of the Tournament and Top Goal Scorer, while teammate Melissa Matheus received the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award.
In the men's category, Unam captain Paulus Amutenya was named Player of the Tournament, while teammate Owen Gariseb collected the Goalkeeper of the Tournament award.
