Victors emerge from NTA junior tournament

The National Tennis Association (NTA)’s third junior tournament for the year took place last Friday and Saturday in the scalding sun in Windhoek.
Boys and girls from under-10 all the way up to U16 and the combined under-25 age group competed to gain rating points to qualify for an end-of-year tournament to determine the best tennis players in Namibia.
Matches took place at the Central Tennis Club, Sport Klub Windhoek and Nampol courts, in both singles and doubles.
The players faced of against each other and kept internal score of the match without intervention from tournament officials unless there was a disagreement that needed to be resolved. After the match they would report the score to the officials.
The top singles results (seeding in brackets):
U10 Boys final: [1] Peter Gathuru beat [2] Jasper Coetzee 8-4.
U12 Boys final: [1] Breyton Bezuidenhout beat [2] Shafishina Shimali 6-0, 6-2.
U12 Girls final: [1] Janice Bezuidenhout beat [2] Niamey Marcus.
U14 Boys final: [1] Luan Brand beat [4] De Witt Bergh 6-1, 6-0.
U14 Girls final: [1] Natalia Ouses beat [2] Emma Brinkmann 6-3, 5-7, 6-0.
U16 Boys final: [1] Dante Marcus finished first of the round-robin between the four entries, followed by [2] Henlou du Toit. Marcus recovered to win their head-to-head clash 6-7, 6-2, 6-0.
U25 Women final: [1] Mari van Schalkwyk beat [2] Joanivia Bezuidenhout 6-2, 6-1.
U25 Men’s final: [1] Ruben Yssel beat [4] Juan Kuhn 6-2, 6-4.
The NTA has an active schedule of many more junior tournaments throughout the year, including the Sanlam Junior tournament next on 5 and 6 April at the same courts in Olympia.
