Anthony Yesuf was crowned champion of the Logic in Kuiseb Chess Open, a rapid tournament organised by the Logic Chess Club in collaboration with the Kuisebmond Chess Academy last weekend.
The event brought together 20 players at the Kuisebmund Library in Walvis Bay. It aimed to strengthen bonds, share knowledge and build a united chess community that “grows through logic, learning and camaraderie.”
Yesuf stormed to victory undefeated in the Open section, securing an impeccable seven points from seven rounds of 15 minutes each. He was followed closely by Likius Lukas, who secured second place on six points, ahead of third-placed Joel-Pahukeni Shigwedha on five.
The tournament also recognised the outstanding junior player, Hosea Shanana, who tallied 4.5 points, and outstanding Cadet player Phaino Gwanyanya for their efforts at the showpiece.
Event organiser and sponsor Ivan Boois, who was also the chief arbiter, said the tournament witnessed both young and older players battle it out.
“One of the most impressive highlights was Max Qin, who forced a draw against 30-year-old Danie Geiseb on board four. Geiseb later forfeited the event altogether in disbelief,” he said.
