CFC hosts thrilling 5th African Marketing Fistball tourney
The 5th African Marketing Fistball Tournament was staged last weekend at the Cohen Fistball Club (CFC), drawing youth and senior teams into an action-packed competition that delivered close battles, upsets, and one of the most dramatic finals in recent memory.The tournament opened on Friday with the youth divisions. In the U/13 category, SKW A dominated with three straight wins to secure the title. Thanks to a stronger points ratio, CFC A claimed second place, while SKW B finished third ahead of their club mates SKW C. The U/18 division saw SFC A clinch victory in convincing fashion, with SKW B taking silver and CFC A bronze. SKW A finished fourth.
Saturday’s senior matches brought intensity to the courts. In Category A, teams competed in a round-robin format before moving into knockout stages. CFC 1 topped the group with four wins and a draw, booking their spot in the final. SFC Blue advanced after defeating SKW 1 in the semi-final, while CFC 2 placed fourth. SFC 2 and SKW 2 followed in fifth and sixth place respectively.
The final between CFC 1 and SFC Blue kept the crowd on edge until the last point. SFC Blue surged ahead with a 2–0 set lead before CFC 1 fought back to level at 2–2, pushing the match into a decisive fifth set. Roared on by their fans, the hosts held their nerve to seal a 3–2 victory. “The most exciting final since the league championship final in 2016,” said CFC vice-chairman Rico Kühnle-Kreitz.
In Category B, SKW 3 dominated the group stage with four straight wins and advanced to the final. CFC 3 pulled off a surprise by eliminating SKW 4 in the semi-final, but the final proved one-sided as SKW 3 cruised to a 3–0 win. SKW 4 settled for bronze, ahead of SKW 5 and SFC Yellow.
Individual honours went to Malte Iben (CFC) in the U/13 category, Tim von Dewitz (CFC) in U/18, while among the seniors, Rene Steinkopff (CFC) and Marcel Diekmann (SFC) were named Players of the Day.
The next big event on the calendar is the CFC Tournament, scheduled for 10 and 11 October.
