DHPS swimmers break records in SA

The opening ceremony of the 18th Sports Olympiad of German Schools in Southern Africa at the German International School in Johannesburg (DSJ) on 11 March 2023 was just magical, with great performances, amazing speeches and the team spirit was buzzing!
The DHPS thanks their LRC representatives and Olympiad athletes Nico Esslinger and Trisha Mutumbulua for their words of encouragement.
The first competitions took place on 12 March, and what a successful day it was for the DHPS swimmers! Medals for each and every swimmer and so many new records:
• The school’s competition group of 3 boys (Robin Engelhard, Nico Esslinger, Max Krafft and Fabian Biederlack) broke the record in 4 x 50m relay;
• Maya Stange broke the 50m breaststroke record (2010, from DHPS alumni Vera Adrian);
• Robin Engelhard broke the 50m freestyle record by nearly 0.4 seconds (2018, from DHPS alumni Matthias Lichtenberg);
• Timothy Kapapa broke the 50m breaststroke record; and
• Alexandra Kapapa broke the 50 m fly record.
To top it all off, the DHPS girls, boys and combined team scores put the school in first place overall.
