Fistball fever returns: Third tournament set for action at SKW
The third fistball tournament of the 2025 season is set to unfold at the SKW sports grounds this coming weekend, promising another thrilling round of action for players and fans alike.Sixteen teams will compete across four categories, with matches scheduled in the A and B senior divisions, as well as in the U/13 and U/18 youth categories.
The tournament kicks off on Friday afternoon with junior matches, as U/13 and U/18 teams take to the field. The U/13 division will see two teams from the host club SKW going head-to-head with a visiting team from Cohen Fistball Club (CFC).
In the U/18 category, the line-up includes one team each from Swakopmund Fistball Club (SFC) and CFC, joined by two teams from SKW. Notably, SKW 1 emerged victorious in this division during the second tournament earlier this year and will be looking to defend their title.
Senior division matches begin at 08:30 on Saturday morning. In Category A, five teams are in contention: CFC and SKW will each field two squads, while SFC enters one team. All eyes will be on CFC 1, who remain the team to beat after dominating the season thus far with victories in both previous tournaments and the season opener.
Meanwhile, SFC 1, buoyed by their impressive run to the finals last time out – a first in over 20 years at an outdoor event – will be eager to replicate their historic success.
Category B features a strong showing from the hosts, with two SKW teams facing off against visiting sides from SFC and CFC. SKW impressed in the last tournament by securing podium finishes across all three of their participating teams.
Adding to the weekend’s excitement, the extended men’s national squad will hold a training session on Sunday. This session forms part of the early preparations for the 2027 Fistball World Championship, which is currently in search of a new host nation following Germany’s recent withdrawal.
With fierce competition and national pride on the line, spectators can expect a weekend of high-calibre fistball and spirited sportsmanship at SKW.
