FNB Namibia backs women’s basketball
As part of its ongoing commitment to advancing sports development and empowering women through inclusive opportunities, FNB Namibia sponsored N$330 000 towards the FIBA Women’s Basketball League Africa Qualifiers, taking place in Windhoek from 6 to 10 November 2025.The tournament will see teams from Namibia, Angola and Malawi go head-to-head in what promises to be an exciting showcase of skill, teamwork, and passion for the game. Matches will tip off on 6 November 2025 at the Deutsche Höhere Privatschule (DHPS).
Speaking at the handover, FNB Namibia’s Lionel Hamutenya reaffirmed the bank’s dedication to nurturing young talent and creating platforms that enable local athletes to rise and excel.
“At FNB Namibia, we are passionate about supporting Namibian sports and the organisations that create platforms for athletes to grow, compete and thrive,” said Hamutenya. “Our vision has always been to build a globally competitive Namibia. Part of that vision is ensuring that every Namibian, regardless of gender or background, can explore opportunities to rise and succeed.”
Speaking at the same event, Nigel Mubita, President of the Namibia Basketball Federation, reflected on the partnership with FNB Namibia and expressed his gratitude for the bank’s ongoing support. “FNB Namibia took us across the country and enabled us to host and participate in multiple tournaments in various regions. All of this has culminated in the success of this international tournament being hosted here in Windhoek.
In closing, Hamutenya encouraged the UNAM Phoenix team to give their best on the court and continue inspiring young girls across Namibia. “To our girls, we truly believe in your ability to take this one home! May this sponsorship remind you that your dreams are valid. FNB Namibia and your country stand behind you every step of the way,” he said.
