N$44 000 boost for cancer apple project
The Namibia Chess Federation (NCF) hosted the 2025 Corporate Chess Team Challenge in Windhoek last Saturday. The event brought together corporate teams for a day of strategic competition, networking and charitable engagement, raising N$44 000 for the Bank Windhoek Cancer Apple Project.Nine teams representing seven companies participated, namely Bank Windhoek, SMEC Namibia, RMB Namibia, NamPower, Sanlam, PwC Namibia, and Green Enterprise Solutions. Defending champions PwC Namibia returned with confidence, but RMB Namibia emerged as the new champions. Competing as RMB Knightly Kings Team A, they delivered a commanding performance, with standout contributions from Mitchell Howley Davids.
NamPower impressed with its disciplined and balanced approach, securing second place. Green Enterprise Solutions made an immediate impact in their debut appearance, claiming third place, led by International Master Dante Beukes.
Special mention goes to Nicola Tjaronda from PwC Namibia, who achieved a perfect score, winning all her games.
The competition ran over seven rounds using a Swiss Team System, with each team comprising four players and one reserve. Live electronic chess boards broadcast games in real time on Lichess, allowing chess enthusiasts across Namibia and beyond to follow the action online.
Bank Windhoek’s Audrey Mostert praised the event for promoting social development and corporate wellness, while the NCF extended thanks to all participating companies, the Namibia Broadcasting Corporation for coverage, and Mariud Ngula from Sports Wrap for post-event media exposure.
The NCF also acknowledged Bank Windhoek as the official sponsor, Windhoek Gymnasium Private School for hosting the tournament, and the organising committee, arbiters, and volunteers for their dedication.
