Namibian dancers shine at International competition in Gaborone
A talented team of young Namibian dancers made the country proud this past weekend, 25–26 April 2026, when they competed at an international dance competition in Gaborone against top competitors from South Africa, Botswana and Zimbabwe. Representing Namibia were Alyna Swarts, Leander Swarts, Mira Theron and Sané Twyman from Windhoek Afrikaans Private School, Von-Mari Viviers and Monique Van Wyk from Windhoek Gymnasium, Ina Mai from Deutsche Höhere Privatschule Windhoek (DHPS), Aneléh Carelse from Windhoek High School, and Elisha Beukes from Rosewood Academy.
The dancers competed in several categories, including hip hop, contemporary, lyrical and jazz, delivering outstanding performances throughout the competition. Namibia’s teams achieved excellent results, with two hip hop crew routines placing first and second, while the contemporary group also secured first place.
In the individual divisions, the Namibian dancers continued their winning streak:
Contemporary: Ina Mai won first place, while Alyna Swarts earned second place.
Jazz: Mira Theron received a special award and also placed first.
Lyrical: Alyna Swarts secured second place.
The team’s success reflects the growing strength of dance in Namibia and the dedication shown by these young performers. Competing against talented dancers from across the region, they demonstrated skill, passion and confidence on stage. Their achievements in Gaborone are a proud moment for Namibia and an inspiration to many young dancers across the country, proving once again that dance is a demanding and respected sport.
