OM Wealth powers Namrox throwdown
Old Mutual Wealth sponsored N$30 000 towards the CrossFit Namrox Throwdown that took place at CrossFit Damascus in Windhoek last weekend. The fitness racing event featured eight runs and eight functional movement stations and marked a bold shift from traditional CrossFit competitions, embracing a more inclusive format that welcomes runners, cyclists, triathletes, and hybrid athletes. By omitting high-skill weightlifting and gymnastics, the event opened its doors to a broader demographic, aligning perfectly with the values of Special Olympics Namibia, which champions inclusion through sport.
All proceeds from the athlete entries went directly to Special Olympics Namibia and will be geared at helping the organisation not only operate but thrive.
“Sport is a unifier, and the Namrox model coupled to the worthy charity checks all the boxes,” said Patrick de Goede, head coach at CrossFit Damascus. “We wanted something more inclusive for our annual charity event, and Special Olympics Namibia is doing incredible work within a marginalised community. They need all the support they can get,” De Goede added.
Old Mutual Namibia Wealth chief executive Wikus Fourie commended the event organisers, highlighting the importance of such sporting events. “At Old Mutual Wealth, we believe in the power of sport to uplift communities and foster inclusion. Supporting the Namrox Throwdown allows us to invest in both physical wellness and social impact. Special Olympics Namibia embodies values we deeply respect, and we’re proud to help create a platform where every athlete, regardless of ability can thrive,” he said.
This year’s throwdown also served as a test run to gauge Namibia’s appetite for large-scale fitness racing and sparked conversations around inclusive fitness.
