Ready, set, net! Playoff buzz builds
The 2025 Capricorn Schools Netball League is gearing up for its exciting national playoffs in August. The league, now in its ninth year and sponsored by Capricorn Group, features thrilling matches that highlight Namibia’s young netball talent and the enthusiasm of its athletes. This year, 85 teams representing 30 state and private schools from Khomas, //Kharas, Hardap, Otjozondjupa, Kunene, Oshikoto, Omaheke, and Erongo regions will be participating.
Backed by the Namibia Schools Sport Union (NSSU), the league welcomes players from U/12 to U/19, providing opportunities for growth, teamwork, and sporting excellence.
“The Capricorn Schools Netball League is more than a series of netball games; it’s a launchpad for personal development, teamwork, and striving for greatness,” says Marlize Horn, Group Chief: Brand & Corporate Affairs Officer at Capricorn Group.
“Every season, we see the league lifting the standard of school netball and helping shape the leaders of tomorrow.”
Strengthening the sport off the court, the Capricorn Schools Netball League presented a top-tier umpires course, training over 100 umpires under the guidance of Marielouw van der Merwe, a World Netball–sanctioned International Testing Panel (ITP) instructor from South Africa.
Capricorn Group paid for all the instructor costs, and more than 30 umpires practised during live Super League matches at Windhoek Gymnasium from June 5 to 7. This training will help ensure fair and skilful officiating, enhancing the credibility of school netball in Namibia.
“We’re inspired by the talent and dedication we’re seeing this season,” says Liezel Garbers, Chairperson of the Capricorn Schools Netball League. “The teams have shown extraordinary commitment, and we’re looking forward to an action-packed finale next month.”
