Team NAC wins Volley 1st tourney

The Namibia Airports Company (NAC) volleyball club won the second edition of the Nedbank Volley 1st Tournament that took place in the north last Saturday.
The one-day event saw the NAC team walk away with the grand prize of N$6 000 courtesy of Nedbank Namibia, medals and a trophy. The games were well attended, with over 100 players taking part in the two-a-side and six-a-side tournaments.
Speaking after the prize giving, Namibia Volleyball Federation spokesperson, Hillary “Dux” Imbuwa said that the games went well based on positive feedback from the teams and spectators.
“An event like this is made to include players who do not play in the professional league, so they too can experience what it is like to play in the same field as a professional. The games are also a platform for corporates to allow colleagues to socialize outside the work environment. We received incredible feedback in terms of the organising, and it is truly amazing to see. Next year, we want to go bigger and better, and we are excited for it all,” Imbuwa said.
NAC team captain Lucas Huanda said that he was happy about winning this year, since they lost in the 2022 edition.
“We are over the moon considering that we did not play well in last year’s tournament. This is our redemption story; we came prepared and took the trophy home. I encourage volleyball players to take part in the competition next year, so we continue to uplift the sport and make it one of the most attended sport codes in the region,” Huanda said.
Nedbank Namibia Communication and Public Relations Manager Selma Kaulinge lauded the teams, organisers, spectators and all vendors who took time out to make this event one for the books.
“On Saturday we painted the Embandu Stadium green and made an impact on volleyball in Namibia. We would like to thank our supporting sponsors and organisers who made this event great, but most importantly the players for taking time out of their busy schedules to play in this tournament. Your efforts are appreciated, and we will continue to contribute to the sport with hopes of making it bigger and better in the coming years,” she said.
The Nedbank Volley 1st Tournament is co-sponsored by Far North Volleyball Association, Windhoek Draught, Omulunga Radio, and Coca Cola.
