The Eagles have landed
FNB announced its naming sponsorship of the national men’s cricket team, now officially known as the FNB Eagles. The announcement took place at an event held at the FNB Namibia Cricket Stadium. This state-of-the-art facility underscores Namibia’s growing stature as a destination for international cricket.
Speaking at the event, FNB Namibia retail chief executive Nangula Kauluma said, “More than just a name on a stadium or a jersey, this is a bold declaration of intent. It is a statement of belief in Namibian potential. It is a symbol of unity, ambition and excellence.”
The FNB Eagles partnership arrives at a pivotal time for Cricket Namibia, as the team sets its sights on key international goals.
Johan Muller, CEO of Cricket Namibia, shared, “It’s fitting that while Cricket Namibia is dreaming new dreams - of qualifying for another T20 World Cup in India, the 50-Over World Cup we’ll co-host, and achieving ODI status - we celebrate with a new partner. FNB Namibia shares our vision and our passion in serving Namibians. It’s fantastic to say that we can dream these dreams with you.”
Captain Gerhard Erasmus also expressed his appreciation. “It is an honour to thank FNB at this stadium for such a monumental sponsorship. Since the last sponsorship announcement, we’ve won our first three internationals against Canada on this very ground. What an omen for the future that is.”
Reflecting on the symbolic power of the partnership, Erasmus added, “Branding and sponsorship not only give us the resources and visibility but also the inspiration and a community. The tree of the FNB logo stands for resilience and strength, protection and nurture. It stands for true African heritage, growth and prosperity. Our team culture is based on these principles.”
Journey of achievements
The event celebrated not just a sponsorship, but the journey and achievements of Namibian cricket. As Kauluma noted, “Through grit, discipline and sheer determination, our national team has put Namibian cricket on the map. Their success has been a rallying cry, a wake-up call, and a dream realised, making cricket a conversation in every household, a source of pride in every heart, and a flame of hope in every young aspiring athlete.”
The FNB Namibia Cricket Stadium is more than a venue: It is a multifunctional hub designed for training, competition and talent development. Featuring international-standard facilities, it positions Namibia to prepare for global competitions, including the 2027 Cricket World Cup, where Namibia will proudly co-host with South Africa and Zimbabwe.
FNB Namibia sees this sponsorship as a long-term investment in the country’s sporting future and broader development goals. “Success requires vision, leadership, and the right support at the right time,” said Kauluma. “That’s why we see this as more than a traditional sponsorship. We see it as an investment reflecting our broader commitment to economic development and nation-building.”
