Thrilling fistball final
The annual Cohen Cup Fistball Tournament delivered high drama in Windhoek on Saturday, as host club CFC 1 claimed the coveted trophy for the first time since 2018 after a tense five-set victory over SFC in the final.The day began with the U/13 category, where SKW A once again proved unbeatable. The green-whites powered through the competition without losing a single match, securing the title ahead of their clubmates SKW B, who earned two victories against the host side CFC 3.
Seven teams competed in the senior category, divided into two groups. In a surprising twist, SFC stunned the favourites CFC 1 with a 2-0 win, ending the hosts’ remarkable 43-match unbeaten streak. However, CFC 1 bounced back to defeat SKW 2 and U/18 A, creating a three-way tie on six points between SFC, CFC 1, and U/18 A. Thanks to a superior set difference, SFC topped Group A, with CFC 1 in second place.
In Group B, SKW 1 secured top spot after victories over CFC 2 and U/18 B, who finished second and also advanced to the semi-finals.
Nail-biting semi-finals and final
SFC cruised past U/18 B with a 2-0 win in the first semi-final, while CFC 1 dispatched SKW 1 by the same scoreline to book their place in the championship match.
The final was a gripping affair. CFC 1 narrowly claimed the opening set 12-10, before SFC fought back to level the match. The coastal team surged ahead by dominating the third set 11-3, but the hosts responded to tie the game once more.
In the decisive fifth set, SFC led 9-5 after halftime, but CFC 1 mounted a stunning comeback, levelling at 9-9 before clinching victory 14–12 to seal the title 3–2 on sets.
The National Cup Tournament will be held on 8 November in Swakopmund. Meanwhile, from 13 to 19 October, a national training camp will take place at SKW, led by women’s national team coaches Jessica Sitz and Didi Foerster. The camp will feature players from the U/13, U/18, and senior women’s squads.
