More than 500 000 SIM cards not yet registered

MTC urged the public to avoid long queues at the last minute by making full use of the extension of the SIM card registration cut-off date.
The extension was announced in December and is expected to last until March. MTC's corporate affairs manager, John Ekongo, said the public's sluggish response since the announcement of the extended deadline resulted in a minimal number of consumers reporting to registration points.
"We have noticed that the public is not making full use of the opportunity to register their SIM cards. Most of MTC's shops and registration points are empty or there are only a handful of people turning up," Ekandjo said.
To date, MTC has successfully registered 1 345 896 SIM cards with another 585197 to register before the deadline in March. Those who want to confirm whether their SIM cards are already registered, can send a WhatsApp to 264 81 150 0100. Online SIM registration is available at q.my.na/7Q8T.
