UNAM solar project a go

Inceptus Energy, a collaboration between Alensy Energy Solutions and Inceptus Holding, the business arm of the University of Namibia (UNAM), has achieved a successful financial close with the Development Bank of Namibia (DBN) and Old Mutual Namibia for a groundbreaking solar project at the university.
This partnership is a significant step forward for sustainable energy in Namibia, featuring a 3.68 MW solar PV capacity and a 657 kVA peak shaving solution. Developed by Alensy, the project exemplifies effective public-private cooperation in advancing renewable energy goals.
Norbert Dörgeloh, CEO of Alensy, expressed pride in contributing to the innovative project that fosters positive change and a brighter future for Namibia. Besides environmental benefits, the project holds economic promise, aligning with Old Mutual's commitment to sustainable development. Construction commenced in Q2 2023, set for completion by Q1 2024.
The project's financing underscores DBN's focus on sustainable green industrialisation and infrastructure development, fostering job creation and a green, industrialised Namibia. Furthermore, IJG played a vital role in arranging debt and equity for the transaction, emphasising their commitment to initiatives driving sustainable development.
Inceptus CEO Evaristus Evaristus emphasised the project's role in UNAM's sustainability commitment, hoping it inspires similar initiatives.
UNAM's Vice Chancellor, Prof Kenneth Matengu, noted that the project reduces the university's dependence on non-renewable energy, cutting expenses and generating savings. As completion nears, Inceptus Energy remains dedicated to sustainable energy solutions, anticipating a positive impact on UNAM, Namibia, and beyond.
