Promoting domestic travel

As part of an initiative to revitalise tourism, the Namibia Tourism Board (NTB) is promoting domestic tourism by inviting members of the local media and “social media influencers” to visit local establishments in central and western Namibia.
The fact-finding trip is currently underway.
NTB's head of marketing, Charmaine Matthias, said earlier this week that the association's overarching goals in promoting Namibia as a premier travel destination, both domestically and internationally. She emphasised the importance of the initiative, whereby local media is asked to promote tourism in Namibia by reporting on positive experiences during their trip.
The selected travel dates coincide with the period leading up to the Independence and Easter long weekends. “We want to attract travellers to Namibia with new ideas about the tourist attractions in this area and encourage them to consider travelling before and during the upcoming holidays,” said Matthias.
She highlighted the importance of domestic tourism, pointing out that during the pandemic, only 4% of Namibian tourism contributions came from domestic travellers. She encouraged Namibians to explore the tourism market in their own country, emphasising the importance of supporting local businesses and experiencing the diverse offerings first hand.
