Medical Rescue Africa unveils advanced air ambulance

New Beechcraft King Air 350i enhances Namibia’s emergency response capacity
Medical Rescue Africa (MRA), a subsidiary of Westair Aviation, has expanded its emergency response fleet with the launch of a state-of-the-art air ambulance. The Beechcraft King Air 350i was officially unveiled at Westair’s Eros Airport hangar in Windhoek last week.
The new aircraft is fully equipped with advanced medical evacuation (medevac) facilities, marking a major milestone in Namibia’s aeromedical capabilities.
“A service like this is never needed until it is needed, and then it must be available, safe and reliable,” said Westair Aviation CEO Henri van Schalkwyk. “The King Air 350 sets a new standard for safety, capability and medical care, ensuring Namibia remains a leader in aeromedical response across Africa.”
The Beechcraft King Air 350i offers high performance, long range and the ability to operate from remote or unpaved airstrips. It accommodates two stretchers and advanced life-support systems, providing rapid response across Namibia and neighbouring regions.
All MRA aircraft are equipped with Med-Pac systems and operated by experienced Westair pilots alongside MRA’s specialised medical teams. The fleet meets global aviation and safety standards, including the Basic Aviation Risk Standard (BARS), Oil and Gas Producer Standards (IOGP), and United Nations Aviation Standards (UNAVS).
MRA provides aeromedical evacuation, ground ambulance support, specialised training, telemedicine for remote sites and emergency coordination through its Mayday Panic Assistance App.
With operational bases in Windhoek, Walvis Bay, Lüderitz, Oranjemund, Senegal and Mozambique, and a 24/7 Emergency Response Centre in Windhoek, Westair manages a comprehensive fleet of road ambulances, fixed-wing and rotor-wing aircraft for medical and offshore missions.
“Our clients and partners have played a crucial role in sustaining Namibia’s emergency medical infrastructure,” Van Schalkwyk said. “This new aircraft symbolises our shared commitment to saving lives and delivering world-class medical response services.”
