Cold front expected this weekend
While cold weather and some showers are already forecast for the south-east today, it is expected to become very cold in the south, central and eastern parts of the country by the weekend.Cold, arctic air will start to move northwards from Sunday, the Namibian Met Office warned.
This comes after a cold front hit the Cape early this week and brought cold, rain and even sleet to the mainland. It also means showers to the south-west of Namibia. which will then move over to the Eastern Cape and move with a south-easterly track by Thursday morning.
However, the weekend's cold is caused by a second cold front, with temperatures already set to drop significantly from Saturday. Sunday is expected to be even colder with a minimum and maximum temperature of -3 °C and 14 °C predicted for the capital, while Gobabis can also expect temperatures of -3 °C and 15 °C.
In the South, Keetmanshoop can expect minimum and maximum temperatures of 1 °C and 13 °C on Sunday, while Karasburg has a 30% chance of scattered showers and temperatures of 2 °C and 12 °C on Saturday. Mariental's coldest day is also expected to be Sunday, with a minimum temperature of -2 °C and a maximum temperature of 19 °C predicted.
