The new year was greeted with showers in various parts of the country and the Namibian Met Office predicts that more rain is on the way.
According to the weather office's chief weather forecaster, Odillo Kgobetsi, rain is forecast for the central areas of the country, as well as for the eastern regions, the Kunene region and the central North.
"Slightly dry conditions are forecast for the Zambezi region, but rain will develop in this area from tonight and we also expect rain throughout the week."
Around 18 mm was recorded yesterday in the vicinity of the Drie Krone estate, east of Windhoek. Adell Malan says a quick hailstorm fell causing water to flow into the dam in the area. Drie Krone also measured 10 mm on Saturday.
Windhoekers shared rainfall figures in their area on Facebook, with Andrew Kisting in Khomasdal who recorded 10 mm yesterday and Trevor Pearce from Hochlandpark who recorded 9 mm on Saturday. Residents of Pionierspark had between 3 mm and 4 mm of rain.
Borrie Borman from Tsumeb said 6 mm fell on Sunday in the vicinity of this town's airport and Bertie Liebenberg measured 9 mm at Otjiwarongo on Sunday. Brian Eagleton said 6 mm was recorded outside Outjo.
Kgobetsi said that the coast can expect cloudy conditions in the coming week, with light rain in parts of the northern and central coast. Dry air and fog are also forecast for the coast from Wednesday.
"Temperatures in the North could rise into the low 30s in the coming days and warmer weather can be expected in the central parts later in the week," said Kgobetsi.
